Third and Renfrow

The missing link in Clemson's offense really since 2018 has been a reciever who can be depended on at "3rd down and get the ball past the down marker". As much as he was appreciated IMHO Renfrow was really not given enough credit. (Acknowledging here appropriate credit given to Tee Higgins who was/Is a great receiver at mid range )
What do you need from a receiver on third down? Get open? Yes, but quickly and be where the passer expects. Most importantly, even if covered CATCH the ball - whether it is perfectly placed, or too far up, down, in front, behind, etc. Go back and watch video of Renfrow make diving catches on inaccurate or contested throws. He wanted to make every pass targeted to him a completion.
It really doesn't have to be a slot receiver (although maybe a healthy Robbie Spector might have the skillset). One of our TEs or RBs may do it, but until that player (or players) is identified and utilized routinely I'm afraid we'll be watching 25/75 jump balls to big outside athletes and wondering what happened to WRU.

From Dabo’s praise, it seems we have Cole Turner coming on. Not this year because of the need for Power Hour and the veterans ahead of him. I think we find that guy in some combo of Spector, Taylor, and Stellato. This year will be better for the Tigers.

BINGO...Dabo said exactly the same thing yesterday. No need to burn him this year with all of the talent they have at that position, but he is going to be special. Said he hasn't dropped a ball yet.

Can he say the same about the other guys? No drops is key. Renfrow is somewhere around 0.2 to 2 % drop rate per PFF on the shorter routes (obviously there is a correlation to route depth, etc.) Drop rate is a funky stat that college staffs almost always avoid because there are usually more than one reason an individual drop occurs.
